Bertram 390
The birth of a new model is always a delicate and time-consuming process. With the new Bertram 390 Convertible, we combined the experience and expertise of three separate groups to bring this design to life.
First, the Bertram Engineering Department called upon forty years experience with Deep-V hull designs and the needs of tournament anglers to give us the platform for this new sportfisherman.
Next, the Ferretti Engineering Division contributed its considerable knowledge of the latest construction and lamination techniques. Much of what we know was learned the hard way, in the harshest conditions of all, on the international offshore race circuit.
Finally, we turned to the Zuccon International Project, whose association with Ferretti spans many years, to develop a new look for Bertram, one that would be immediately recognizable as "Bertram" yet be fresh and contemporary. We also challenged Zuccon to develop an interior layout that would exceed every boat of its class in luxury amenities and effective use of space.
The project aim was to develop the best sportfishing boat in the 40 foot size range; to design a boat at home in the Northeast Canyons and on the Bahamas Banks, as well as all the other oceans and markets of the world - in short, a Bertram.
We asked our tournament fishing owners and captains what we could do to improve their world.
We are offering optional features such as lower controls for international markets. Nothing was left to chance and every aspect was carefully planned and considered.
For example, the interior of the Three-ninety Convertible can be compared to much larger boats. It was developed to meet the needs of the sportsfisherman, yet deliver the comfort of a cruising boat. The salon/galley/dinette arrangement is spacious and practical. There is room to relax or entertain in comfort with a full complement of standard features and amenities. The Three-ninety has the sleeping accommodations of a much larger boat.
Particularly unique is the second cabin with side by side twin berths instead of the more common over and under berths.
On the practical side, we paid particular attention to the organization and layout of the engine room. The fuel tank was located midships to minimize the effect of fuel load on trim. It also acts as an effective insulator of noise and engine room heat for the forward cabin area. Careful layout of major components makes maintenance very easy. Even in the unlikely necessity of removing an engine or generator, the Three-ninety has been designed so that this may be accomplished without major surgery to the boat.
Pages and pages could be written to describe the many new features incorporated into the 390 Convertible. To learn more I urge you to contact your Bertram dealer. In the meantime, everyone at Bertram Yacht and the Ferretti Group wishes you tight lines and good fishing.
