The Moorings Announces New Base in Turkey

Moorings 43.4The Moorings announced the opening of a new base in Orhaniye, Turkey for the 2009 sailing season. The Moorings base will offer a range of sailboats with monohulls and catamarans from 40 to 44 feet.

Cruise the Aegean Sea From The Moorings Orhaniye

Orhaniye is ideally located on the west coast of the Hisanoru peninsula with a mountainous coastline that offers numerous anchorages within easy reach of the base. Stretching for 30 miles into the Aegean Sea between the Greek Islands of Kos and Rhodes, the peninsula provides a sailor's paradise with late morning winds building to 25 knots and deep blue seas with secluded coves, rugged mountains as a backdrop, and small tranquil villages offering many local Turkish delicacies. "Cruising the Lycian coast is a voyage that will be remembered forever, and it can now be done with the confidence and five-star service provided by The Moorings," commented Cheryl Powell, chief operating officer of The Moorings. This cruising ground provides a range of experiences from the narrow fiord-like bay leading to Bencik to the quiet coastal village of Bozborum, which is one of the main centers for construction of the colorful traditional Turkish boats called gulets. The area also offers historic ruins such as those found at the entrance to Bozukale and ancient Loryma found at the northern end of the bay. A Moorings sailor may choose from a roundtrip cruise starting and returning to Orhaniye or a one-way charter finishing in Bodrum, Finike or The Moorings base in Gocek. "You can also visit the Dodecanese Islands of Greece from our newest base," stated Powell. "Our goal is to provide the best cruising grounds in the world to our customers, and the addition of the Orhaniye base is another example of our commitment." According to Powell, the base is also easily accessible from the airports in Dalaman or Bodrum.
