Ocean Light II Adventures

The 71 foot sailboat, Ocean Light II and her crew offer exciting exploratory, photography and natural history tours of the British Columbia Coast and SE Alaska. As the longest-running sailboat charter operation on the BC Coast, our experience and expertise is unparalleled: 2007 marks our 32nd year of adventure. We are enthusiastic about the coming season and are positive it will be filled with wildlife, wilderness and friends.

Our boat, the Ocean Light II, (an Ocean 71) is thought by many to be the perfect BC Coast charter boat. She has been completely rebuilt, both inside and out, over the last five years and she is now an outstandingly beautiful and powerful vessel for travel in the Pacific Northwest. The boat is coast-guard certified and outfitted with the most up-to-date equipment.

We are the pioneers of professionally-guided bear viewing and photographic trips on the BC Coast and in 2002 ours was the first boat to be given an extensive tenure by the BC Government for operating on the BC Coast. We have also signed important protocol agreements for working with the First Nations on the coast. Our bear viewing trips include the Khutzeymateen Valley, Canada's only grizzly bear sanctuary. Located on the northern coast, we offer an up-close look at the grizzly in its natural habitat. We are also the initiators of ecotourism in the Great Bear Rainforest with a focus on the Spirit Bear. The Great Bear Rainforest is a stretch of the BC coast wherein lies some of the world's last pristine coastal rainforest. This is a home for old-growth trees, salmon, grizzly bears, wolves and the elusive Spirit Bear. We complete our season with natural history and adventure tours to the magical isles of Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands). Here we focus in Gwaii Haanas National Park (South Moresby) where ancient Haida village sites, sandy beaches, rocky shores, old growth forests are only part of the diversity of this amazing archipelago. We travel to SE Alaska in June, when the days are at their longest and the coastal weather is favourable. The vistas and wildlife are unparalleled, as we wind our way from Prince Rupert to Juneau: mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, ice, wild flowers, whales, birds, a glorious feast for the senses.

Join us as we once again set sail and explore the beauty, tranquillity and wildness that make the Pacific Northwest a magnificent destination.
