Adventures AWAY specializes in arranging bareboat charters for groups or individuals. We have been taking large groups to the Caribbean for over 12 years.
The A.W.A.Y. in our name stands for "Annual Winter Adventure Yachting".
My name is Ted Chisholm and for 22 years my full time occupation was running the sailing programme for The Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto. In 1993 the Grenada Tourist Board asked me to help develop the Grenada Sailing Festival. The first Festival was held in January 1994. It was a fantastic success with over 40 entries. Twenty six of these were crewed by Toronto sailors who flew down for the week. We even had a matched boat series with guest skippers Buddy Melges and Terry Neilson. The idea of having a winter regatta caught on and we have found most people like to visit a different island each year. On January 23, 1999 our group flew to the BVI for the A.W.A.Y.'99 Regatta. This year we were only able to get 35 boats so we were sold out by early summer.
My partner in this regatta programme is Marilyn Dennis (a Laser 28 racer), who is the major shareholder of Travel Away Inc. This company is an IATA registered travel agency which capably handles all of the details surrounding travel arrangements for both the large groups and individual charters. Both of us have chartered and sailed boats in many parts of the world. Therefore, we understand many of the aggravations which usually arise when trying to put a sailing trip together. Marilyn has a special talent for getting the bumps ironed out.
